Kmart: The use of colour is less opposing than Myers. To me, the use of blue and red and the contrast of these shades are more friendly due to their brightness and the sizing of the font used (the big "k" and the smaller "mart") in contrast to the big solid "myer" that is black and large

Target: A positive appeal is gained from the use of red in this logo, and the circle/target shape re-inforces the company name! The circle also seems softer in comparison to the myer logo.
SO... the kmart and the target logo seem more appealing to their market who is young and looking for something simple, cheap, easy...where as the myer logo seems serious and strong - means business if you will, expensive and sophisticated... much like .......

David Jones: this logo seems very serious, bold and sophisticated much like the myer logo...due to the use of black and the hound tooth print (symbols falling into place)...i believe David Jones is definately Myers main competition in terms of selling to a similar market! Both use black and white and a bold/strong font...but the use of the hounds tooth print... really seems to aid the DJ logo.... if you have one...and can have two... why not have two... so you can cover all grounds of the advertising market... eg...(the use of the print seems to overtake the company name...in my opinion)
