week 5: Doll/toy logos

Bratz uses bright pink font with a golden border that glistens. This appeals to the feminine market as pink is very much associated with femininity since birth. The use of the hallow is also very significant implying innocence, purity, and the idea that this company produces and gives their product to "little angels". The use of the stars and the blue sky s also an enchanting image and sparkles/stars/twinkles are often used in disney and animated features to imply magic and fantasy - which also encourages girls and even parents to believe that this brand is a friendly and positive company and will produce amazing, cute, magical, beautiful things - especially since that fairytales and notions of "angels" are often seen as very affirmative and good.

I really like this logo as it appears classic. the logo is black and white and uses a very fancy and curved/english script. I also very much appreciate the idea of the "i" and the "d" being incorporated into the symbol/logo used by the brand. The Idea of the company being called "irish doll" and the logo makes me think that the company produces old fashioned type dolls that wear perhaps Victorian clothes or something with a western european flavour to it. The use of the harp and the silhuotte of the figure also reveals ideas of a classical age due to the connections to orchestral music and the woman balancing a vase or an old fashioned hair do!

To be honest I would be curious to see the Dolls from this brand any day over the "Bratz" brand - as i have a natural hatred of "bratz" (being a lover of Barbie who can blame me really - i feel bratz have now put too much emphasis on the face....which might be nice but seriously bratz look cheap and dress more like whores than Barbie ever did....but i guess this can be a huge argument but I know I find classical dolls with old fashioned costumes way more appealing than some chick with platinum blond streaks in her hair with a boob tube and a mini skirt *cough* BRATZ *cough*)

I found "Emily Doll" through google when i looked up "doll logos/doll brands/toy brands/toy logos". And i must say i really like the logo. It is very modern and would appeal to the younger generation and even the new age mums out there. I love the 3d text and the coral red/pink colours. I feel they are not too different from the overly used baby/bright pinks that bratz and barbie use and many other brands that try and sell to the girl market. I feel that these tones are really intriguing esecially with the use of the cursive script with the slogan "come play with me" it is really enticing...maybe even for boys - haha. Kind of suggestive. But what doll isn't? Even the pose of the so called "doll" in the logo seems flirtatious - but i certainly love the play on the love heart that turns into an air balloon...and then pulls the strings of the doll!

I liek the connection you can make with those symbols. It is very natural to make your dolls fall in love with one another and have relationships. And i feel that the notion of "love" is a very strong tale...a strong idea and message that is told particularly to young girls - through film, stories and even music. And so with the use of the love heart it implies that girls can live these things out through these particular dolls successfully! I dunno now if that is great - with all the sexual innuendo presented in this logo.... But to a degree i am sure it is innocent as the colour is soft and overall it is a sweet in its entirity. If it were to be a serious logo about blow up dolls or something i feel the logo itself would be red and black...implying dangerous "liasons" HAHA. Oh dear!

And here we are finally at the "Cabbage Path Kids" logo. Now i had a cabbage patch doll...And i thought they were great - so Horah for their branding! But i think what is nice about the brand/logo itself is that it shows you what you get and the story behind the name. I love how the baby head is actually in a cabbage patch. And that the head is the actual design of the dolls head. I also really liek the colours - they are so different - the green mainly. And i also love the importants place on the image itself. It is as strong as the company name i feel.

As for the text - i love how all the words connect and that it curves around the image almost like a crest/family shield. And with the addition of the ribbon above "25 year celebration" (even if it isn't always there) it helps convey how prestigious, strong and loved the brand is...and adding something more credible to the brand...like an award!

I like the drawing of the logo as well...I like how it has now become more 3d over the years and showing the depth to the leaves and the bright eyes of the baby. The face looks as smooth as the actual dolls face is. And i think that is a great selling tool - being able to draw that connection of the image to the actual doll itself.

I may go try and find my dolls now... time to play again ^^;
